Polished white veined interior floor

A high-gloss white tile floor with charcoal veining, laid in a straight grid and meeting a wood floor at one edge.

About this floor

This floor is large, high-gloss white tile with broad charcoal-gray veining, set in a straight grid with thin joints. The veins branch across the field in irregular lines and change from tile to tile, so the floor has movement without a repeating pattern.

One photo looks down at the surface, where a multi-pane window reflects in the polish next to a black floor register and the edge of a dark wood floor. The other looks toward a partly open glass-paneled door, a white drawer unit and a dark stool. White baseboards finish the edges.

On a similar job, we plan the grid so cut tiles end up at walls and doorways, where trim and furniture hide them, and we cut the tile tight around each register. A polished surface shows every lip between tiles when light hits it from the side, so we check the floor for flatness first and use a leveling system as we set. Where tile meets wood, we pick a transition strip that suits both floor heights.
