Veined tile stair and landing

This stair and landing are tiled in large light beige tile with soft gray-brown veining, on both the treads and the risers. A slim black metal railing runs up along the wall. The grout joints are narrow and line up from tread to riser, so the flight reads as one continuous surface.

The second photo shows the landing at the turn, next to a gray built-in cabinet, warm wood trim and a white wall. The veining changes from tile to tile and keeps the pale surface from looking flat.

Stairs are some of the hardest tile work to get right, because every misaligned joint or uneven nosing is in plain sight. For a similar stair, we check the structure for flex and measure every tread and riser, since they're rarely all the same size. Then we plan the layout so the joints line up all the way down, and we pick the nosing or edge profile with you before ordering tile.
