Gray-veined tub alcove bathroom
A tub alcove and bathroom floor in large white tile with broad gray veining, paired with a dark vanity.
About this bathroom
The photos show this bathroom from both ends. At the tub end, large white tile panels with broad gray veining cover the back and side walls of the alcove, around the chrome shower head and tub spout. A white toilet sits next to the tub.
From the vanity end, the room is long and narrow: a dark vanity with a light countertop, wall mirrors, a white toilet and a white cabinet above it. The same gray-veined tile runs across the floor, so walls and floor read as one pale surface, and the dark vanity breaks it up in the middle of the room.
To tile a similar tub alcove, we start with a waterproofed backer on the walls, lapped over the tub flange so water running down the wall ends up in the tub. Large panels show any wall that's out of plumb, so we check and correct the framing first. On a narrow floor like this one, we center the layout on the doorway so the cuts at each wall come out even.
