Veined tile shower with pebble floor

A shower with large gray-veined white wall panels, a built-in bench, a mosaic inset and a pebble floor, in a small bathroom.

Shower with bench, niche and pebble floor

The shower walls are large white panels with sweeping gray veining. A built-in bench sits on the left, a recessed niche is set into the wall, and the fixtures are chrome. High on the back wall there is a rectangular inset of mixed-tone mosaic tile.

The shower floor is small rounded pebbles. They feel good underfoot, grip well when wet and follow the slope to the drain without large cuts.

The second photo turns toward the vanity and toilet. The same veined panels continue on the walls there, and the bathroom floor is a darker gray square tile with strong veining. The dark floor keeps a small, light room from looking washed out, and the panels, pebbles and mosaic give you three textures in one compact space.

For a shower like this, we build the bench as part of the shower framing and slope its top slightly toward the drain so water doesn't sit on it. The bench, the niche and the floor all go under the waterproofing membrane along with the walls. Pebble floors take a lot more grout than standard tile, so we use a grout rated for wide joints, seal it after it cures, and show you how to keep it clean.
